About Acupuncture

It is very difficult to put acupuncture into layman’s terms, but let me boil it down to its most basic.

Acupuncture is the insertion of very thin needles into acupuncture points in the body. There are over 350 points and an infinite number of combinations of points that can be used. Acupuncture originated in China over 2000 years ago. In the last 30 years it has become an integral part of mainstream health and wellness in the United States.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, acupuncture is used to balance the flow of qi, or energy flow in the body. Harmonizing the recipient and allowing for optimal health to be achieved. Acupuncture views the body as a garden that needs to be nurtured so that it can be maintained, not as a machine whose parts you can replace whenever something goes wrong.

According to Western Medicine, the acupuncture points have been shown to stimulate nerve pathways in order to increase blood flow, and release endorphins to reduce pain.
