How Acupuncture Works, and Why It Lasts
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. A 2,500-year-old medical system, explained without the mysticism, including what to expect at your first visit.

How a hair-thin needle actually does something.
Acupuncture is a sophisticated medical system that has been used for over 2,500 years to treat a wide variety of physical and emotional conditions. At its core, it’s the practice of inserting sterile, hair-thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the nervous system and promote the body’s natural healing abilities.
At Jeiran Lashai Acupuncture, we view acupuncture as a bridge, connecting traditional Eastern philosophy with a modern, physiological understanding of the human body.
Neurological response
Acupuncture stimulates sensory fibers under the skin, sending signals to the brain to release endorphins and enkephalins, the body’s natural pain-killing and mood-regulating chemicals.
Circulatory boost
The process increases blood flow to local tissues, delivering oxygen and nutrients while flushing out inflammatory markers. Tissues heal faster when they’re well-perfused.
Autonomic regulation
It helps shift the body from a "fight-or-flight" sympathetic state into "rest-and-digest" parasympathetic balance, where actual repair, immune function, and hormone signaling happen.
What a session actually looks like.
From the moment you walk in through the end of your appointment. No surprises.
Consultation
We start with a thorough intake, health history, current concerns, labs, cycle data, sleep, digestion, stress. We may look at your tongue and check your pulse.
Treatment
You rest comfortably on a treatment table. We use only single-use, sterile, disposable needles. Most patients feel a tiny tap followed by a sensation of deep relaxation.
The acu-nap
Needles stay in place for 20 to 30 minutes in a quiet, dimly lit room. Most patients describe this as the most peaceful part of their day.
Plan & next visit
We review what you noticed, adjust the plan as needed, and schedule your next visit based on cycle phase, condition, or response to treatment.
