How acupuncture helps

The mechanisms behind the results.

01

Immune modulation

Acupuncture regulates Th1/Th2 immune balance, reducing the overactive immune response behind allergies and asthma while improving defenses against recurrent infections.

02

Lung & Wei Qi support

In Chinese medicine, the Lung governs the body’s surface defenses (Wei Qi). Treatment builds this protective layer, reducing susceptibility to external pathogens and seasonal triggers.

03

Local anti-inflammatory action

Points near the sinuses and throat reduce local inflammation and congestion rapidly, providing symptomatic relief while the underlying pattern is addressed over the course of treatment.

Frequently asked

Common questions.

Not as a substitute for immunotherapy, but as a complement. Many patients reduce their allergy load and symptom severity significantly with acupuncture, particularly in the weeks leading into allergy season. Some are able to reduce antihistamine use.
Ideally 4–6 weeks before your known allergy season begins. This allows time to build immune regulation before the first exposures. Patients who come in at the height of symptoms still benefit, but improvement is faster when treatment begins early.
Acupuncture can help reduce the frequency and severity of asthma episodes as part of a managed care plan, but it is not a replacement for prescribed inhalers or emergency bronchodilators. We work alongside your pulmonologist or allergist, not instead of them.
